Another reason to travel the world
Its time for another reason to travel the world, these are great little post to writes as they keep me focused on my long term goal – Backpacking around the world! See some of my first posts on the adventure of travelling and the people you meet along the way. There are so many reasons to travel its some times difficult to stay focused on one, even to write a post. Difficult to understand my own reasons let alone the hundreds that you all have. I found a number of interesting thoughts on this blog, reasons for travelling on your own. thinking a may write a future post; Reasons for travelling with some one.
Let me elaborate on my rather ambiguous title. Every journey we partake in, everything thing we do in fact is a one off. We will never have this same moment again so take a look around a sup it up!!
Travel and life so far
My life so far got me thinking about this. Although I now have a fairly mundane 9-5/2.5 children kinda life it has not always been the case. I went to university, I worked a ski season in the French alps and i have now lived in wales for 3 years. These things which I have done can never happen in the same way again. I will not be able to return to the french alps and live in the same way, with the same people. I would be able to snowboard every day though, bonus! My time at university is over, sure i can go back to university, if i really wanted to but it would be a different experience. Not only that but it would be for different reasons. Do the reasons we do things impact the experience we have? Sure they do, we find different explanations, different qualities in the experiences we have because of the reasons we are there in the first place. If our experiences had a sole it would be different every time.
My backpacking journey
The journey which I am going to go on in a years time is the same. If i where to leave today my experience would be different. I cant say if it would be any better, i cant say it would be any worse, just different. There is no way that the same people will be in the same places I visit, in ex-stream cases the countries them selves may have changed. There could be another tsunami in Asia that could change the land scape, it could happen while I am there, something like that could have a huge effect on my life. It could happen in front of my eyes instead of on a TV screen! Its impossible to tell what our journeys and travel experience’s will give us, no way to tell what we can take from it.
How is this a reason to travel around the world?
We discover the unknown when we travel. Sure, no two days are ever the same, ever though I have lived in the same place for the last three years. No to days have been the same and the place I work, the way I work and who I work with have all changed and continue to do so but there is a distinct lack of the unknown. I can walk into work and know what might happen, the fact that i can predict my day has on the most art taken the unknown from my life. When we travel we don’t know who we are going to meet, what challenges we are going to encounter, nor the problems we will have while on our individual unique travel journeys. Then, tomorrow it will all be gone and a new door will be open for us again. Open for us to have new experiences, meet new people and discover new things.
Whats next on the journey?
In our normal everyday lives we quite often hear about what we have missed. How many times have you had a week off of work or missed a party and heard all about it. These essentially trivial things become important. This may not be the case (input would be greatly appreciated at this point), but imagine the when we travel you don’t often hear about what you have missed. I am sure that I will be to busy thinking about the things that are coming next, or things I am doing in that moment. Why, primarily because they are new and exciting but also because you will never be able to have them again. 5 quite funny reasons to travell the world.
There is no doubt that you can miss a lot of things when you travel the world. . . Opportunities, people and so many life changing moments. What you will always have is the next place and the next experience. It will be different all the time and if you don’t take it then it will be gone tomorrow but you can be sure that a new experience will take its place.
A reason to never stop travelling the world!!
We are all part of an incredibly dynamic and fluid process which is happening all around us. Is the fact that it will all be gone or have changed by tomorrow a reason te travel the world, yeah of course it is, Its a reason to never stop travelling the world.

I enjoyed your comments. I have traveled as a hobby and for mind expansion for many a year. I,m so glad I did. The memories I have are not as good as the live experience but way better than watching a travel video. I,m happy I did it on the cheap. I have friends who claim to have traveled so I ask them how they got there. How they moved over land and most importantly where they stayed. When they say oh “The Marriott or the Sheraton… the food was great just like home”. At that point I tune out. If one doesnt get close to the people one may as well watch that travel video.Sorry to ramble on but I realised a long while ago that the biggest reason must be (albeit a selfish one) is because we only have a very short time on earth. Why not take on as much experience as possible? We were lucky to exist and we will go for worm food like so many before us. This isnt meant to be morbid but the opposite is true. Be sure to live every second. Travel is a joy. Whatever it takes keep on traveling. By the way you got particulaly lucky being born in “The lucky country” Its about the best all things considered. Cheers, b
Thanks for your thoughts Bill. I am not sure I am from a lucky country, I do think being from the UK has given me some very very exciting options. I am just waiting to get out and explore them now!! Totally agree with what you said about travel, its about seeing other cultures and meeting people. ‘Its just like home’ sounds all to familiar to me. Cheers.
