Virgin Travellers
My journey has yet to begin, the hard nosed planning seems so far away. I have sat here in my comfortable flat and thought about travel, what I envisaged it to be and the places I have wanted to go for some time now.
Today was the day that I started to really think about the places which I wanted to visit. Where is the world excites me the most. Kat (my partner who as of yet has had no formal introduction) had a thought of going around the world backwards to what we had originally thought. With that in mind we set about doing some research this afternoon.
One step closer to the journey being a reality
Kat would like to do some volunteer work in Peru so we thought that it was a good starting point. We have been sat here now for around 3 hours and my journey has suddenly become so much more real. I am sure I will be saying this a lot over the next year or so as I go through each stage of this adventure but to actually see pictures like the one above and think that one day in the not to distant future I could be there is exhilarating. The picture above was taken by Ron Walker, to take a look at some more of the pictures of the area see pictures of Iquitos.
My travel Journey grows . .
Something I have realised from looking through these pictures and a blog about travelling to Iquitos in the north of Peru is that myself and Kat are travelling into the world of the unknown. Culture shock, maybe, perhaps this is a phase we all think about, a phase all travellers go through at some point. I would not like to think that it is going to be a shock, more of an introduction. An introduction to a country, a culture, the land and the people who live there. Whats it like when you realise you are actually there, travelling, being introduced?
From comfort zone to unknown . . .
Seeing the pictures, reading other peoples journeys continues to feed my hunger to get out there and do it myself. Reflecting on this sat at home in Wales I certainly think that something is going to happen when I visit these places. I feel a mixture of excitement, anxiety and impatience. I see it on Kat’s face, if I looked in the mirror I am sure I could see it in mine. The truth is whatever we do where ever we go it is going to be life changing experience for us both. The biggest unknown is who we will be at the end of the trip. If we are a sum of our experiences, then at the end of travel we are part of the world, or rather the world is a part of us. It beckons the question ‘Who are any of us?’
What a journey we are all on!

Luke, I look forward to following yours and Kat’s adventure. Your view on life will change but it will be a good change.
